About the program

Green Campus Coop was founded in the early 2000s by faculty and students at York University who were concerned by the lack of socially and environmentally sustainable products on campus. GCC is involved with several projects, including advocating for getting York declared a Fair Trade Campus. GCC was established in 2011 as a non-profit cooperative. While our mission is to promote sustainability and social justice, our members have different, but overlapping needs. Faculty have used GCC to provide experiential education and a ‘living lab’ for teaching students about sustainable business. We are contributing to extending and deepening social economy networks: backward, forward and final demand solidarity-based linkages.
